Palestine? Israel?

By riotkate

In history we've been watching this movie called Promises, about children in Israel/Palestine. It's a collection of interviews and series of footage documenting their lives and their views on the conflict going on there.

It made me think about my own views on the matter. While I think Israel abosolutely has the right to exist, I think that their oppression of the Palestinian people has been unjust and inhumane. I wish that people could realize how very similar they are and start on the journey to peace. I hope someday that they can live together, an integrated nation.

It was interesting to see the youth talk about their firsthand experiences and to see them meet and befriend each other and then lose touch in just two years. It made me sad to see them want to make change but ultimately giving up. And the ones that were hostile towards the other side made me even more sad.

It also made me realize how much power children hold. Who's been the major driving force behind the Intifada (both of them)? Children. The Children of the Stone.

And while the children will bring peace to that nation, they will also bring the revolution.
